Want to Test Your Hormone Levels? Here's How!

Want to Test Your Hormone Levels? Here's How!

Let’s start with a little game, shall we? Here’s how it’s going to go- I am going to give you a couple of scenarios, and you keep track of how many you can relate to.

Ready? Okay, let's go!

Scenario #1:

For a while, you’ve noticed constant breakouts- face, back, chest, etc. So, you take it upon yourself to really define a consistent and (what you hoped to be) beneficial skincare routine…

But the acne just doesn’t seem to go away whatever you do!

Psssssst, that’s hormonal imbalance symptom #1.

Scenario #2:

So, last night you went to bed at a decent hour, maybe even a little earlier than usual - drank your chamomile tea, did a little meditation, and read a book so you could doze off and enjoy a restful night’s sleep. The alarm goes off nine long hours later, but somehow you can’t seem to pull yourself out of bed. Even after all of your relaxation techniques, you found it difficult to fall asleep, and when you finally did fall asleep, it didn’t feel like a restful sleep.

Psssssst, that’s hormonal imbalance symptom #2.

Okay, one more...

Scenario #3:

You have a lot on your plate.  You’re trying to lead a balanced life, while still ensuring that you leave some time for yourself.  This can be hard. Somehow, even in the quiet moments, meant for you to find some peace and calmness, you’re still finding yourself irritable or overwhelmed with anxiety and stress. No matter what you try, you can’t shake the mood inconsistencies. One minute you’re feeling happy, and the next you’re questioning everything…

Guess what… that’s hormonal imbalance symptom #3.

If you found yourself relating to any of those three scenarios, you most likely have a hormonal imbalance, but I have some good news…

You're Not Alone

A whopping 80% of women suffer from hormonal imbalance.

As you move through different stages of life, your hormone levels are naturally undergoing changes. However, diet, lifestyle, toxins, or underlying conditions can interfere with the natural cycle. Not to mention, symptoms can manifest in many different ways, making it difficult to understand their true cause.

So how do you really know if you’re struggling with hormonal imbalances?

Hormonal Level Testing

Getting tested helps locate the issue, and understanding what’s going on is already an important step toward a solution.

There are several types of tests, generally quick and painless. Some can be done at home with a kit. Ask your doctor for more information and to prescribe one for you.

Before we start – you might find those hormone names confusing. We get it! Check this out, so you know what your doctor will talk to you about!

Saliva Test home kit:

Just collect your saliva in a tube and send it to a laboratory to check your estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and cortisol levels. Please note that mouth pH levels and dental health can affect results.

Urine Test home kit:

Same as the Saliva Test, it measures estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, and cortisol. You can also analyze daily fluctuations by collecting samples at different times.

Blood Serum Test:

It’s performed at a physician’s office, as a blood sample is taken with a syringe. It checks several hormones, including insulin, thyroid, prolactin, LH, FSH, and other sex hormones. Fasting is necessary to ensure hormones are not altered.

Blood Spot Test home kit:

Simply prick your finger to get a small blood sample and send it to a lab. Although not as broad as the Blood Serum Test, it checks insulin, thyroid hormones, estrogen, testosterone, and more.

I know… there’s a lot to choose from! Good news is, you can’t go wrong. Any of the tests listed above are all great ways to begin your hormonal wellness journey.

Okay, so we’ve determined that tests are a great option when it comes to cracking the code to hormonal imbalances - but what comes next? There aren’t any natural remedies, right? Wrong.
